Lone Peak Automation

Another issue chock-full of OS/2 Goodness

I want to thank everyone for their kind words on the February issue. My favourite comment was "your first issue was SPECTACULAR. :D" Of course most of the credit has to go to the authors. We're seeing quite a few new faces here, and I want to encourage that. If you feel like writing, have a look at the OS/2 eZine Press Room for more information. Last month's writer/prizewinner of one copy of UPS Monitor for OS/2 from Lone Peak Automation was... me!

Two of the articles this month have [Broadband version] next to them. These articles contain a lot of large bitmaps, so if you have a fast connection you can click on the broadband version to view all the pictures full size without having to click on them.

Forums

Unfortunately, last month UBB, the software that powers the forums at the OS/2 eZine, had a major meltdown. Fortunately, the techs at BMT Micro were able to resurrect UBB so we have forums back this month. I just created one topic this month. Do you like everything separate, or is together better? Let me know what you think in the forums!

Warpstock 2001

As a Canadian, and being married to someone who was born in Ontario, I was excited to learn that Warpstock will be held in Toronto this year (October 6-8.) While Toronto isn't exactly close to home, it should be a nice vacation and give my wife a few days to visit friends and family. This is my first time going to WarpStock, so I'm looking forward to it.

If you are going this year, try to plan a side trip to Niagara Falls, it is only about 2-1/2 hours away from Toronto by freeway. I've never been there that late in the year but the falls are spectacular, and you will not get a better view of them than from the Maid of the Mist, a serious bargain at only $10 per person. Since it'll be October, make sure you bring a warm coat and try for a sunny day. Don't leave too early though, at night the falls are lit by colored floodlights. The view of the falls from the Hilton is particularly nice.

My Experience with Cinema/2

After reading this month's article on Cinema/2 I went out and bought my own WinTV card. As Alex says, it is pretty darn cool. I did run into one problem though, it doesn't work right on my Matrox G400 in 24-bit color mode, apparently due to a color conversion bug in DIVE. A switch to 16-bit color fixed the problem.

Search the eZine with Google

You may have noticed the new Google logo on our front page. I've really been missing the OS/2 eZine site search facility since the eZine moved to its new servers, so I've added a Google site search to the eZine to make finding older articles easier. I have found Google to be the fastest way to find things on the web, so I'm pleased that they are willing to let us use their service here. Note that newer articles will only appear in the search results after a couple of weeks, as the Google web-spider only checks back for new content from time to time.

Advertisers

Thanks to Blueprint Software Works and CDS Inc. for taking us up on our advertising offer this month. They tell me they have new versions of PMView, PMMail and Back Again in the works, that's nice to hear. I hope you'll take a minute to click through and take a look at their wares.

If you are looking to get some affordable exposure for your product, see the Advertising page for more information.
